Black men take the longest to secure work after higher education
In 2019, 33% of black men and just 15% of white men who were available and looking for work were unemployed. “We’re interested in recruiting young black men for duty manager roles at Premier Inn, which will be a good opportunity if they’re at college doing business studies and want to work around two days a week to learn the practical side of business.”
According to figures, it takes young black men 5.3 months to get their first job after leaving education, compared to 3.4 months for white men and 2.8 months for white women. Morgan Sindall Construction received several CVs from young black men keen to secure one of the apprenticeship roles bricklaying.
Monica Paul, a Social Value Manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “I met some really fantastic candidates at the jobs fair and as a local employer, we’re keen to support as many young Black men as possible into apprenticeships and jobs.”
