'She said that her Nanny said that her mummy is in heaven and if I could bring her back for Christmas'
A Belfast man has spoken of how he brought joy to a young grieving girl who mistook him for Santa while on a shopping trip with her grandmother.
"I had come out of the shop and seen two women hugging each other. One was going and she had a kid holding her hand," he said. "They had come out of Smyth's toy shop and I had heard one of the women say 'ok Claire all the best' and she headed off. "I asked her what that was and she said that her Nanny said that her mummy is in heaven and if I could bring her back for Christmas. I didn't know what to say and just as that, a robin landed on my car."
"She said that her daughter had died six months back and that she had been looking after the child since. She said that the child doesn't understand the concept of death and I got into the car. As I was leaving I put my window down and said 'you take care of Avril, Claire' as I had heard her name and she was shocked and nearly dropped her bag.
