The celebration of Eid at Asia Society Texas includes calligraphy, ebru, henna, geometric art making, paper cutting and making Eid greeting cards.Asia Society Texas will shut down the surrounding streets for its upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration, and organizers welcome all to celebrate the Muslim holiday through art, music, dance, food and an outdoor bazaar April 29.
Performances include the National Arab Orchestra, Afghan dance by Linda Sadiq and Nasheed songs, or Islamic hymns, by Umer Zaman. The Eid festival is part of the organization's Muslim Series, which was launched in January 2019, said director of communication and audience engagement Stephanie Todd Wong.
The Festival of Eid spotlights all of the different countries where Muslim Americans have roots — in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Another Pew study showed that about half of Muslims in the U.S. report recent discrimination and feel like other Americans do not see Islam as part of the mainstream culture.
