Joseph Peers today became the first defendant to give evidence in the trial
The man accused of driving to the home of Ashley Dale with the gunman who killed her told a jury her boyfriend was a "nice lad" and he knew nothing of any "beef".
The prosecution case is that Peers and Witham were sent to kill Harrison, who was at a nightclub at the time, by Niall Barry, 26; Sean Zeisz, 28 and Ian Fitzgibbon, 28, who allegedly directed the hit from a flat in Pilch Lane, Huyton. All five men are on trial at Liverpool Crown Court and deny murder.
Peers said he had not heard of any "beef" or dispute between Harrison and Barry, known as 'Branch', telling the jury: "Definitely not. Lee’s a nice lad. He never really hanged around with the wrong crowd of people. He said: "I said what’s happening Lee you alright? He said yeah. I put a thumbs up. There was no tension. I carried on."
The jury has heard a fight between Zeisz and Lee Harrison's friend, Jordan Thompson, at Glastonbury festival "reignited" an old feud between Barry and Harrison. Peers told the jury he had travelled down to Glastonbury festival on Saturday June 25, hoping to buy a day ticket from a tout in Shepton Mallet, but was unsuccessful and travelled back to Merseyside early on Sunday.
Messages between Ashley and her friends, recovered from her phone after her death, described how Barry had been "on some pure rampage" after an old feud between him and Harrison had flared up following Glastonbury.
