Fans hoping for armor drops in Anthem are going to remain disappointed.
, it can’t seem to help continuing to stumble into controversy. This time, it has to do with an upcoming addition to the game, Elysian caches, which will appear at the end of strongholds and can be opened with a once-per-day key, though if anyone in your group has one, everyone gets a prize.
Those prizes? Cosmetics, which up until now could only be bought from the store with earned currency or IRL cash, with a select few given out for challenge rewards. But now fans are starting to realize something that has been hinted at since these chests were announced, there are not going to be cosmetic armor pieces inside Elysian Chests.
What will be in them? Emotes, victory poses, landing poses, decals, vinyls and bundles of crafting supplies. I am not sure about armor materials, butOne the one hand, this is bad. On the other, given what we’ve seen fromseemed like it had a pretty decent idea for the loot shooter genre. In games likewhere you have to often look like a hodgepodge of garbage to get the stats you want, Anthem’s system was effectively a permanent transmog.
In a perfect world, BioWare would have enough armor sets to sell a select few in the store, but have a bunch of other sets able to be found in Elysian caches so players have something to grind for other than uh, emotes. While I fundamentally like the idea of the “look however you want, play however you want” system behindis bad, and I think fans are furious now that they thought they’d finally have a path to finding armor in the wild only to realize that wasn’t the case.
, but I am seeing a lot of players saying this is the last straw for them, so it’s not something to gloss over entirely. Introducing cosmetic chests at last but having them not drop the one cosmetic everyone actually wants is a bad move, and even if I understandWe’ll see if BioWare is able to address this and possibly get out Elysian cache-only armor sets in the future. But until then, expect more grumbling.
