Actor and San Antonio native Jesse Borrego recently appeared in a viral video where he gets 'sock checked,' a meme popularized by the social media platform Foos Gone Wild, which sends up and celebrates Chicano and cholo culture.
The sock check is a nod to the knee-high tube socks popularized in cholo street culture and used to gauge how much someone is"down with" or a part of such
Chicanismo. Or as the saying goes, “The higher the sock, the downer the foo.” It's such a social media phenomenon even skateboard legend Tony Hawk has name-checked it.
