When Anderson isn't playing for the Texans, he's either working on his partnership with New Balance or thrift store shopping — or both.
Laith Awad owns Thrifted Threads. He said a lot of professional athletes in Houston — including Anderson’s teammate rookie quarterback— shop at the store. Awad makes it a point not to hound his famous customers, but he said Anderson is always polite.
It’s probably one of the last places Texans fans expect to see one of the players, but it’s a spot where Anderson feels comfortable.Awad said many players shop at thrift stores to find vintage gear that will stand out. Thrift shopping increases the odds they will be unique for the photos of their game day outfits that have become popular on social media.Anderson said he doesn’t have a fashion background but is looking forward to sharing some of his ideas, based partly on his bargain finds.
But when it comes to shopping, Anderson knows where he likes to spend his time. And he always finds good deals on quality gear.Anderson said he has purchased a heavy Carhartt coat through thrifting, but it’s too hot in Houston to wear it. Anderson also is excited about a particular designer jacket he could wear this time of year in Houston.
“I found this Balenciaga windbreaker in the last thrift store I was at,” Anderson said. “There are a couple pieces that I’m really excited to bring out to pair around with the New Balances and everything like that. I have a few ideas.”Aside from shopping in Houston, he has made himself comfortable with his Texans teammates. It helps that he’s held his own in Houston’s 4-3 defense.
