The alleged killings took place in April 2020 in Jersey City, authorities said.

In the first shooting, according to the complaint, three of the reported gang members, who authorities said operated out of the the area of Rutgers Avenue and Triangle Park in Jersey City, allegedly traveled to the territory of rival gang members in April after an associate had been killed in a shooting the prior day.
They now face additional charges from federal authorities after being charged Friday with murder in aid of racketeering, attempted murder in aid of racketeering, and two counts of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The trio faces life in prison, if convicted.On April 3, a rival gang member reportedly tried to shoot Tyree Witherspoon, 29, of Jersey City, who authorities said is associated with the gang that operates out of Rutgers Avenue and Triangle Park.
Federal authorities charged Witherspoon and Tutten with murder in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. They also face life in prison, if convicted. The two are also facing local charges for their role in Ward’s death., 25, who was shot and killed in the area of Cator and Rose avenues last March.
