MOUNT SHASTA, California — A climbing guide was killed and five other people were injured in separate incidents, all while climbing Mount Shasta, according to authorities.
A male was in critical condition with an open fracture on his lower leg and head trauma, according to the sheriff’s office. A female had a lower leg fracture. At 12:31 p.m. Monday, a male climber avoided critical injuries despite falling about 1,000 feet, the sheriff’s office says. United States Forest Service climbing rangers helped the climber partially down the mountain, but he eventually was was airlifted by helicopter and flown directly to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta. His condition is unavailable.
HP H-14 located the injured climber. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
