were the best I have heard on the Uvalde massacre. Having been an incident commander in the past, I agree with all your comments. I hope the state and school districts put into effect your recommendations.Police Chief William McManus’ comments about the cost to protect students were good but shortsighted. He stated that more campus security is needed. Even my church has added security on Sundays.
Yes, we need to protect our students and provide a safe learning environment. He ignored the other times these students and groups of adults/families are off-campus, such as at a grocery store, theater or concert. What about the people who are not students? Would restricting access to weapons of war and right to carry guns without permits be more effective and ultimately protect more people?Although I live in Alamo Heights, I consider William McManus to be “my” police chief.
“The next horrific incident occurred over one month ago, when an individual unworthy to be named claimed the lives ofWe all know the name of the murderer and have seen his name mentioned in almost every recounting of the tragedy, but McManus refused to write the name yet again. Thank you. And let those with any power/influence over school security heed his words and immediately activate his suggestions, borne out of experience.
This is how we protect our precious children. No more running around with committees and hearings. As we all have pleaded in our hearts, just “do something.”
