Read the Express-News letters to the editor for April 17.
Readers, responding to a recent editorial, have said Sen. Ted Cruz failed to uphold his oath to the Constitution in furthering former President Donald Trump’s goal of overturning the 2020 presidential election.Re: “Cruz’s shocking fight against democracy,” Editorial, Wednesday:
This is a recurring theme. Most of our elected Republicans support restrictive abortion laws. Most support unlicensed handgun carry. Most support book bans. Most support restriction on teaching race history. And most believe the election was stolen. Their legislative actions reflect this. But repeated, credible polls inform that the majority of Texan voters do not support any of these positions.
I agree totally that Sen. Ted Cruz disregarded his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. He and too many others in the Republican Party are willing to overlook their responsibility to this most important document.
