A new poll found Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) would beat President Joe Biden in Virginia if the two faced one another in the 2024 presidential election.

The survey, conducted by the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, found if the election were held today, 44% of the respondents said they would vote for Youngkin, while 37% would vote for Biden. The Virginia governor is not in the presidential race but has reportedly been considering a bid for the 2024 Republican nomination.

The poll found if the candidates were Biden and former President Donald Trump, Biden would win with 43% support, while Trump would receive 40% of respondents. If the candidates were Biden and Gov. Ron DeSantis , the vote would be evenly split, with each candidate receiving 41%. In the poll, 77% of Democrats indicated they would vote for Biden across all three hypothetical presidential matchups. In comparison, 83% of Republicans said they would vote for the GOP nominee. The poll found among the GOP candidates, independent voters were more likely to support Trump or DeSantis than Youngkin, but all three candidates garnered more support than Biden among independents.

The poll had a margin of error of approximately 5.5%. It was conducted July 14-25, with a sample of 804 adults.
