But for this year's cold-weather range, Lee's shifted her focus to different set of female muses: Ali MacGraw, Jane Birkin and Annie Hall.
Hall's feminine-yet-scruffy, thrown-together look is the jumping-off point for fall. See the high-waisted corduroy trousers in a tomboyish silhouette, styled with checked blazers and flannels in the lookbook. To counter the menswear leanings of the '70s film character, Lee is also offering up a luxurious vintage-inspired shearling flight jacket and a plaid long belted coat, both of which speak to Birkin's cool, city-chic style. McGraw's bohemian influence and love of textiles is felt in a sumptuous, velvety corduroy puffer that comes in a golden Mumbai floral pattern.
In the lookbook, which you can browse in the gallery below, fall layering and pattern mixing are big ideas for the season, as is colorful corduroy and classic prints. Denim takes a bit of a backseat, appearing only twice as a jacket and contrast-stitch retro jumpsuit.
And, as in previous years, J. Crew's younger, denim-centric sister brand is offering an exclusive look at the new collection to Madewell Insiders first, where they can then purchase the not-yet-launched pieces from the lookbook directly through the site.
