Isiah Kiner-Falefa's hit inside the third-base bag helps Yankees win 3-2 after Padres struggle to score in top half of 10th
The Yankees walked off a patchwork Padres club Saturday afternoon, winning 3-2 on Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s one-out single in the 10th inning. With Anthony Rizzo beginning the 10th on second base, the Padres intentionally walked DJ LeMahieu before Rizzo went to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on Kiner-Falefa’s single just inside the bag at third base.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa, center, jumps with his Yankees teammates after his single scored a run for a 10th-inning win over the Padres. Sunday’s outcome will determine whether the Padres win a second consecutive series or lose a sixth series in their past seven. Wacha’s scoreless streak had ended at 15 innings, but he struck out the next batter to escape what was shaping up to be a rougher first. The run was just the second Wacha had allowed in a span of 25 innings, going back four starts. There would not be a third until LaMahieu’s rocket to the first row of seats beyond the right field wall. In between the two run-scoring hits, Wacha retired nine straight, allowed a single and retired seven more.
