Aaron Judge is this year's recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball's most prestigious honor.
Aaron Judge is the fourth Yankee to ever win the Roberto Clemente Award, joining Derek Jeter, Ron Guidry and Don Baylor.Judge was named the recipient of the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball’s most prestigious individual honor. It’s an award that’s handed out annually to the player that best exemplifies the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
“Just being a nominee is an incredible honor that a lot of players look forward to. Now getting a chance to be a Roberto Clemente Award winner, it’s tough to describe,” Judge said. “The legacy left, we can sit here and talk about the stats, what he did on the field. He was a generational talent on the field, but he was a generational ambassador for this game off the field.”. Judge’s current teammate and close friend Anthony Rizzo also received the award in 2017 as a member of the Cubs.
The Roberto Clemente Award was presented to Judge before Game 3 of the World Series in Arizona’s Chase Field. Judge was selected from a list of 30 Club nominees by a distinguished panel that included Commissioner Manfred, Roberto Clemente’s children – Enrique, Luis and Roberto Jr., former players , and journalists from MLB-affiliated network & media partners – MLB Network, FOX Sports, ESPN, TBS and MLB.com.
