Work has officially resumed
on a major council housing project in Top Valley after its previous developer went bust. Robert Woodhead Limited entered into voluntary liquidation last September, triggering mass redundancies.
It had been working on a project to build 106 council houses on the site of the former Eastglade Primary and Nursery School, which closed in 2007. By the time Robert Woodhead collapsed, just 53 of these homes had been completed. It was announced earlier in the year that the Lovell Partnership would complete the rest of the project. Nottingham City Council now says work officially restarted on Monday .Councillor Jay Hayes, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Nottingham City Council, said: "I'm delighted that works are restarting to create these new council homes for local people on the waiting list. They are well-designed and energy efficient – places where people will be proud to live.
Nottingham City Council is now aiming to have people moved in to the development on a phased basis from late October until next February. The development will comprise 23 one-bedroom flats, 63 two-bedroom houses and 20 three-bedroom houses. Lovells are also working on the council's Beckhampton development in Bestwood Park. That project will see 131 council homes being built on land that was formerly a playing field.
