Wonder Woman isn't a harbinger of peace.
Warning: Spoilers for Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #2The core values of Wonder Woman are getting challenged and recontextualized in the latest entry of DC's summer Knight Terrors event. Thanks to a new villain in the form of Insomnia, everyone in the DC Universe is forced to live out their deepest fears in the most literal sense. For Wonder Woman, she's going to be forced to face a twisted version of herself.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The confrontation of the two Dianas will commence in Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #2 by Josie Campbell, Juan Ferreyra, and Pat Brosseau. AIPT Comics offers a special preview of the issue before its August 15 release date and a sneak peek at the issue's cover pages. Cover art and variants from Jae Lee, June Chung, Sebástian Fiumara, Jeff Dekal, W. Scott Forbes, John McCrea, and Mike Spicer can be viewed below.
Wonder Woman's Biggest Nightmare is Herself As can be seen in the panels below, Wonder Woman finds herself in a fight with a much darker version of herself housed within the nightmare realm. As the two get into verbal jousts with each other to match the physical prowess that they are displaying, Nightmare Diana starts to pick at the values that Wonder Woman holds most dear to her.
What stands out the most her is Nightmare Diana saying, "You say you're an ambassador of peace ... then enforce that peace with war, with black eyes and broken bones." It's hard to challenge that point of view. Yes, Diana is a healer in her own right, to the point that it's provento be Wonder Woman's RWBY semblance. At her essence, Wonder Woman's efforts are focused most around instilling and spreading peace.
It can also be argued that Wonder Woman may be aware of her shortcomings in the peace department, as most nightmares within Knight Terrors are created from the subject's deepest insecurities. As much as there are examples of Wonder Woman bringing peace, her most memorable moments involve her inflicting fear and violence, such as breaking Maxwell Lord's neck. Granted, she was effective, but it's a moment that gives people a reason to fear her rather than be inspired by her.
