Woman issues 'skinny pen' warning after fake weight loss device left her paralysed
A woman has issued a stark warning after an unprescribed weight loss device known as a 'skinny pen' left her paralysed and unable to speak.
A week after starting to inject the drug, skin care specialist Jennifer collapsed at home on July 27 and claimed she couldn't move or speak for 40 mins. After seeking advice from her GP, Jennifer was taken to Monklands A&E where after further tests, doctors diagnosed her as having had a Transient Ischaemic Attack, also known as a mini-stroke.But Jennifer felt unsettled by the diagnosis and started to look into what might have caused her symptoms.
"I looked online and read warnings about fake devices and the one I had been using looked so similar. It was obvious it wasn't legit. She has since discovered her fake pen was actually administering Insulin, rather than Liraglutide, which is used in Saxenda. "People really need to know what they are injecting. I hope reading what happened to me puts them off buying the pens under the counter.
