A woman died and a man was hospitalized after a hit-and-run in South Dallas while attempting to cross a street on Friday night, police say.
A man was pushing the woman in a wheelchair about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of Holmes Street, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said. A driver in a white Suburban hit the pair as they attempted to cross to the other side of the street. Police said they were not on a crosswalk. The suspect, who has not been identified, did not stop to render aid and left the location, police said. Both victims were taken to a hospital, where the woman died and the man is in stable condition.

Back at Dallas Zoo, found monkeys get fed, snuggle upThe two small monkeys who were found in a vacant house a day after being taken from the Dallas Zoo lost a bit of weight during their ordeal but show no signs of injury, the zoo said Wednesday. The disappearance Monday of the two emperor tamarin monkeys — named Bella and Finn — and the discovery that their enclosure had been cut were the latest in a string of unusual events at the zoo over the last few weeks, which has included other cut fences, the escape of a small leopard and the suspicious death of an endangered vulture. Dallas police said they found the monkeys — who have long whiskers that look like a mustache — late Tuesday afternoon in the closet of a home south of the zoo after getting a tip from the public.
