The U.S. case against a Saskatoon woman accused of kidnapping her child and fleeing across the border is currently on hold, but is still open.
Court records show the woman, 48, was indicted on charges of aggravated identity theft and identity theft for allegedly knowingly possessing identity documents — a Saskatchewan driver’s licence and Canadian passport — belonging to someone else and using it to commit an unlawful act under local, state or federal law in the U.S. The indictment document is dated Sept. 7.We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.
She was granted bail by a Saskatoon provincial court judge on Sept. 2, and is subject to electronic monitoring and several conditions during her release.Article content The woman and child were the focus of a two-week search that ended on Aug. 5 when they were found safe in Oregon City, Ore. The child returned to Saskatoon with a legal guardian on Aug. 7.
A U.S. Department of Homeland Security officer filed a criminal complaint which alleged the woman used a friend’s identity and that of the friend’s child to facilitate her flight across the Canada-U. S. border.Article content
