With triple digit heat on the way, beware of leaving kids in the car

With triple digit heat on the way, a reminder for people with kids to make sure they are not left behind in a hot car.

Sadly Texas leads the nation when it comes to hot car deaths among kids, according to the Department of State Health Services. But there are lots of things you can do to make sure it doesn't happen to you. \Experts say the majority of hot cars deaths are because someone forgot a child in a car, a caregiver simply forgot to drop off the child at school or daycare.

To help remember leave something in the backseat with the child, a purse or briefcase, some people even leave a shoe in the back. Experts say leaving a child in a car can happen to anyone, even new parents who aren't used to the drop off schedule or busy parents who are just over-tired.

The ingredients for huge hail all came together on Sunday, and damage reports are still coming in. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth says hail up to 4 inches in diameter was reported in Flower Mound (southern Denton County). Large hail was also reported in nearby Bartonville, Highland Village, Copper Canyon and Lewisville. In Collin County, hail up to 2 inches was reported in Frisco. Texas offering more than $2 million in grant money to help military communities - KRLD NewsTexas offering more than $2 million in grant money to help military communities - KRLD NewsGovernor Abbott said $2.28 million is available to help support military communities in Texas that may be impacted in any future Base Realignment and Closure. The Governor said the money is part of the state's continued support for service members and their families. The state's 15 major military installations adds over $114 billion to the state's economy and supports more than 600,000 jobs. Among the locations sharing in this years grant money is the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth; which is getting $360,000 for an anti-terrorism protection security system.
