After two incompletions on the opening possession, McCord started to find his rhythm on the second. He completed a pass to Harrison, his high school teammate, for a 21-yard gain. After two more short completions, McCord again found Harrison for a 30-yard gain.After two-and-outs on the next two possessions, coach Ryan Day had McCord throw on fourth-and-5, and Kaleb Brown converted on an 8-yard reception.
“I think what you saw was similar to what you saw in practice, some good things and things that you'd like to be a little better,” Day said. Though McCord was off limits for contact, he was often pressured. The only long run came on a 65-yard touchdown by Chip Trayanum with the second unit. Otherwise, running backs found little room to run.
