The Winnetka Park District Board is focusing on plans for Elder Lane Beach, commissioning three new versions of one proposal with varying levels of rock height in order to begin preservation of the beach after three years of closures.
“Then the question becomes, for the coastal engineer, give us a reasonable idea of how this would withstand wave action and how this would protect sand and beach at each of these levels,” Codo said.“What I hear is that there is real consensus around Elder. They need to fix Elder. They need to reopen Elder,” Codo said.
“We’re talking about stormwater,” she said. “I want to better understand where the village is on this and where we are on this and the fact that the village has final sign off on anything we do.” “Just because of the timeline, if we start them and we settle on an Elder plan then we have a tiny bit of a head start if we can get to a consensus on permits,” said Codo. “It doesn’t obligate us. It does get us a little bit further down the road if we decide to go forward with the plan at Elder. Only if we reach a consensus on Elder.”
