We chat with Hypnotic star William Fichtner about his latest villain, the intricacies of the Robert Rodriguez movie, reuniting with Ben Affleck, and more:
A detective's hunt for his missing daughter opens a whole new world in Hypnotic. Ben Affleck stars as an Austin detective tracking a series of bank robberies in which the culprit gets away cleanly, putting him on the path of what's known as a Hypnotic, a powerful hypnotist who can twist the mind of any person to their needs.
In honor of the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with star William Fichtner to discuss Hypnotic, getting to the heart of his latest villain, having an Armageddon reunion with Ben Affleck, and more. And then that happens more than a few times, and me personally, I get very excited about stories like that, journeys like that. Then, to act in something like that, especially with a character like Dellrayne, there's nothing about it that wasn't appealing. Then, I spoke to Robert after I read the script and had a Zoom with him, and after speaking to Robert for 15 minutes, I was like, "When do I board the plane for Austin?" I did, eventually, like a month later.
The stakes are so high for who Dellrayne is and what he wants, because what he wants is what Alice Braga, who plays Diane, and Ben Affleck, who plays Danny Rourke, [wants], we're all looking for the same thing. We just have different reasons why we want to get there, so I love the journey. I've said it a million times that prepping for a film oftentimes means just as much to me as the shooting of it.
It's all actor speak, but there are things that you look for, things that all of a sudden, "Boy maybe this is the right fit for who that guy is, and a point of view or a way of looking at something, a way of sitting, a way of walking, a way of something." That's all part of the joy in the doing of it and figuring it out.
