The weather is the result of several wildfires in Canada. The smog is now making its way over to the United States and impacting major cities such as New York City and Washington, D.C. The National Weather Service has advised that people in much of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic should avoid outdoor activities on Wednesday due to the air quality being unhealthy.The smokey weather has affected several events and other outdoor activities. People were advised to plan around the weather.

The FAA has slowed traffic to and from New York City area airports due to reduced visibility from wildfire smoke. In New York City, public schools were open for class on Wednesday, though all outdoor events and activities were either canceled, postponed, or moved indoors. Likewise, a game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox was pushed back to tomorrow, June 8. The game will now be set at 4:05 p.m. EST on Thursday.
