After seemingly retiring from his role as Marvel's most popular live-action mutant with 2017's Logan, Hugh Jackman is soon set to return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
Wolverine's ultimate foe is none other than Sabretooth, one of the characters that carries the strongest links to Logan during Jackman's time in the role. Despite having such an important part in Logan's journey, Victor Creed, aka Sabretooth, has only appeared in two live-action X-Men movies.
Why X-Men's Original Sabretooth Actor Didn't Return For Wolverine's Prequel The actor who played Sabretooth in 2000's X-Men was Tyler Mane. The first live-action Sabretooth was recast for 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with the reason behind the move only being revealed years later, in 2017, by Mane himself. According to Mane, he was recast due to the second Sabretooth actor, Liev Schreiber, looking closer to Jackman than he did.
Why Liev Schreiber Didn't Return As Sabretooth X-Men Origins: Wolverine is widely regarded as one of the worst superhero movies of all time; however, none of that is Schreiber's fault, with the actor delivering a gripping performance as Sabretooth that made it clear why Logan and Victor Creed were each other's nemesis. Despite being one of the few saving graces in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Schreiber would never get to return as Sabretooth after the movie.
In 2017, Logan co-writer Scott Frank revealed that Sabretooth almost appeared in Logan. According to the writer, director James Mangold had come up with an idea for the character to come back, which would have consisted of Wolverine and his group being "on the run, and they go to the gambling town, there may have been at that point they were going to see [Sabretooth] for help.
