One TheSexLivesofCollegeGirls star opens up about their major season 2 break-up. 'It just opened up a new door of growth for her, which was great, and then it also [leads] her to another world, which was also very great.'
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Sex Lives of College Girls season 2While heartbreaking to watch unfold, The Sex Lives of College Girls star explains why that season 2 break-up is a good thing. The young adult series from Emmy-award winning producer Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble recently entered its sophomore season on HBO Max.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Speaking to TVLine, The Sex Lives of College Girls star Alyah Chanelle Scott explains why that breakup is good for Whitney, and is needed for her character development. Although Scott reveals she was crushed to learn of the split, she says it is necessary for Whitney to do some self-reflection, and learn from the experience.
"...but I also loved it, because they got to have some sort of story. Nothing can be that good...I also think it was great because it keyed into more depth in Whitney in that it exposed to herself some deep-rooted insecurity she has...[she] finds that she has something she needs to work through and work on....so even though the breakup with Canaan is a sad thing, the heartache leads Whitney on a positive journey of self-discovery, personally and academically.
While Whitney is devastated from the heartbreak, the Sex Lives of College Girls does a nice job of turning a negative into a positive, and it seems this experience will be no different for Whitney. Based on Scott's reaction to the heartache, it's apparent that Whitney will need to reflect on her past to discover how her own insecurities and self-esteem affect her current relationships.
The Sex Lives of College Girls has focused heavily on Whitney's relationship status, rather than her academics and own aspirations and dreams. But, now is the perfect opportunity for the focus to shift to her, rather than her love life. While Canaan might be the driving force behind her journey of self-discovery, it seems her focus will be on academics, sports, and even friendships, rather than love.
