Mr Shapps was appointment Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on 7 February 2023. He has held the post ever since. He previously chaired the Commons foreign affairs committee, and prior to entering politics served in the Territorial Army during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
In 2011, it was revealed that his close friend and best man at his wedding Adam Werrity had joined him on official visits on 22 occasions and had even claimed to have worked for him.
