Where was Lori in Meg 2: The Trench?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Blockbuster sequel Meg 2: The Trench brought back a handful of fan-favorite cast members from the first movie, but Jessica McNamee and her character Lori are nowhere to be seen. Meg 2: The Trench sees Jason Statham’s freelance megalodon hunter Jonas Taylor springing back into action when an illegal deep sea drilling operation unleashes a ruthless pack of megs.
Meg 2 didn’t bring back everyone from the main cast of the original. Li Bingbing didn’t reprise her role as Jonas’ love interest, Suyin. But the sequel explains what happened to Suyin: she died in between movies, and her position at Mana One was taken by her brother Jiuming, played by franchise newcomer Wu Jing. While Suyin’s absence is explained in exposition and she even gets an on-screen tribute, Lori’s absence from the ensemble is never even mentioned.
Meg 2 Leaves Lori's Status A Mystery After The Meg The producers haven’t provided an official reason for McNamee’s exclusion from the Meg 2 cast. Lori is never mentioned in the sequel, so her status remains a mystery. It’s possible that during the writing process, the screenwriters simply found that there wasn’t room for Jonas’ ex-wife in the sequel story.
But that still doesn’t explain why Lori is no longer a part of the Mana One crew. In the first movie, she was one of their most skilled divers and submarine pilots. Just because she doesn’t have an integral place in the emotional core of Meg 2: The Trench, it doesn’t mean she couldn’t have made a brief cameo appearance on Mana One.
