The adversities within the fashion industry can be overwhelming, but there's a reason why young BIPOC continue to push forward. These young voices share their experiences and why they stay:

, was interning in the summer of 2020 at two major fashion brands. One paid, the other unpaid, but she had to sign a nondisclosure agreement since she was the only intern getting compensated.

Ultimately, their employer decided to start paying the other intern in trade and comping their lunch. Ho Ken would later learn through casual conversations with more senior employees that many interns left fashion entirely after ending the internship program. “She said a lot of people leave the internship not wanting to work in fashion anymore or not pursuing their own business.

I want to stay in this industry because I want to be a part of the beauty. I love beautiful things, and I think people sometimes think it’s a vapid point of view, but to me, it’s the only point of view I’ve ever had. I tried to make sense of it, I tried to pursue other ventures, industries, but I was never satisfied until I came here. I want people like me to be a part of the beauty, Black women, people from lower income backgrounds.
