Why Hotez is right not to debate RFK Jr. (Opinion)

I’m all for facilitating healthy dialogue between people with differing opinions. It’s quite literally in my job description — and something I work hard to do with your letters every day. But as I mentioned in my, supporting dialogue means that I enforce ground rules. Mainly, that involves fact-checking the letters to the best of our abilities. It’s possible to do that in a podcast or even live television.
It’s much easier to lob unfounded accusations than it is to rebut them point by point. Bill Nye, “the science guy,” learned this the hard way when he tried to, an Australian creationist. It’s unlikely Nye convinced Ham — much less other creationists — of anything with his in-the-weeds points, while I can say with certainty that Ham gained a larger audience.
Likewise, RFK Jr. stands to gain from going up against a well-known, respected scientist. Hotez, on the other hand, only stands to lose time and energy attempting to debate a person dedicated to bunk science. I applaud Hotez for not taking the bait. And if RFK Jr. truly wants to
