HarleyQuinn producer and writer Patrick Schumacker admits there was some concern over how fans would respond to the show's version of Nightwing: 'I'm like, 'God, are people gonna hate that we're showing brooding Dick Grayson?''
Harley Quinn producer and writer Patrick Schumacker reveals that he was worried about fan reception to the series' version of Nightwing. The popular DC Comics character just joined Harley Quinn in season 3, voiced by Harvey Guillén. He's the latest high-profile DC character to join the series, which already includes Poison Ivy, Bane, and the Joker in addition to its titular leading lady. Harley Quinn season 3 made its debut on HBO Max on July 28.

And it's funny, that's one of the characters that I was really nervous about, because our interpretation of him for our show is much more of a brooding, emo sort of [riff] on the Titans series version of Dick Grayson. He's kind of antithetical to the Dick Grayson of the comics right now. I love Tom Taylor's run in the comics right now. I think it's fantastic, and I think a lot of people love that.
Despite the Harley Quinn writers' fears, the reception seems to be pretty positive so far. Guillén thanked Nightwing fans for their support and acceptance following his Harley Quinn debut. It looks like a good number are delighted by the show's silly, brooding take on the beloved hero, and they aren't deterred by the other current Nightwings.
