One of the only skyscrapers under construction in San Francisco right now hasn’t made any progress in more than a month.

The only building of its size to start construction since the pandemic began is pausing due to permit issues related to its proximity to BART. The future 47-story 30 Van Ness Ave., owned by Australia-based real estate company Lendlease, includes more than 300 housing units and nine floors of offices and retail.

Building representatives also blamed the recent heavy rains for the delay in progress."Site activity will become more intense shortly," Arden Hearing, executive general manager of West Coast development for Lendlease, told the Business Times."We've had a bit of a lull and re-sequencing as we navigate the rains and finish up some necessary permit work."

A BART spokesperson confirmed to the Business Times that “the pause is the result of ‘adjustments’ the transit agency requested due to the project's proximity to underground rail tunnels.” The work stoppage could delay the completion of the building, which had a target date of 2025, and may increase costs on one of the most expensive construction projects underway in the city. It's valued at $1.15 billion.
