A Children of the Corn remake has just been theatrically released, but it has been torn apart by critics, and there are many reasons why.

A new Children of the Corn movie appeared in 2023, but its Rotten Tomatoes score hints at it being one of the worst films in the franchise. The original Children of the Corn, which is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, was released in 1984 and has gained a significant cult following. The film follows a twelve-year-old who manipulates other children to take the power and control from their parents and go on a bloody-thirsty rampage killing all of them.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Horror reboots have been huge hits lately, as Hellraiser, Prey, which was a fresh take of the Predator franchise, and Scream, , were all positively received by their respective fanbases. Unfortunately, Children of the Corn doesn't continue that trend, as it's currently rated "rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes with a shockingly low 10% rating.

Foster explained, "We went back to the story and free-associated from there" . The producer had good intentions, but mixing a Children of the Corn prequel story into the remake led to a baffling and unmemorable movie. Though King's original novel is wholly creative, neglecting the cult classic original film risked insulting the franchise's fanbase, and that's exactly what it did. The movie feels confused by its own narrative and it isn't remotely scary.

Is The Children Of The Corn Franchise Now Dead? There's no doubt that this iteration of Children of the Corn was dead on arrival. The studio must have known what kind of movie it had on its hands, as RLJE Films was sitting on it since Children of the Corn premiered in October 2020. There's no chance of such a negatively received movie ever getting a sequel, that is unless it gets enough attention on the horror streaming platform Shudder where it will be available to watch on March 21.

However, there have been so many Children of the Corn movies, most of which were just as negatively received. The only difference is that the 2023 movie is much higher-profile, as it's the first movie in the franchise to be theatrically released since Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice. So while there certainly won't be any continuation of the new reboot given its disastrous reception, another reboot of the franchise will undoubtedly be developed at some point.
