White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday morning that Ukraine's recent push to take back territory from Russian forces will not affect the share of aid the United States plans to continue sending to Kyiv.
As of Monday morning, Ukrainian forces had liberated roughly 3,000 square kilometers extending up to the Russian border and the Ukrainian government had warned of increased Russian retaliatory attacks."We're not going to speak for Ukrainians. "We're going to just continue to support their need to succeed on the battlefield. That has been our goal," she continued."As you all know, we announced two significant security assistance packages this past week, put more than 50 countries together to coordinate our support, and have worked to fulfill the Ukrainian request for what they need to be successful on the battlefield, and that's what we're going to continue to do.
Russia initially responded to Ukraine's counteroffensive by launching missile strikes against the Ukrainian power grid, causing a complete blackout in the Donetsk region and partial outages in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy. You can listen to Jean-Pierre's entire remarks below.
