White House to House Republicans: On funding government, be more like Senate GOP EXCLUSIVE
EXCLUSIVE — The White House is ramping up pressure on House Republicans to work with Democrats and Senate Republicans in advancing an omnibus spending bill before the holidays, avoiding a government shutdown in the process.
"As the president said, he’s ready to keep working with House Republicans. The American people were unmistakable when they grew Democrats’ numbers in the Senate that they expect House Republicans to do the same," Bates said in a statement."As Senate Republicans are saying themselves, this is an important test of the House GOP’s willingness to govern.
"Both parties in the Senate are doing what, in the best midterms for a newly elected Democratic president in 60 years, voters showed they want elected leaders to do: find common ground with each other, not let partisanship subvert the needs of the American people," an official said.
A number of Senate Republicans have gone so far as questioning their House colleagues' ability to govern, and even McCarthy's judgment as a party leader.
