White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to say Monday if the Biden administration believes China is"committed to the status quo with Taiwan," noting only the United States's commitment to stability in the region and the decades-old One China policy.

"This president and this administration have been very clear that diplomacy is really part of what's important to the American interest and how it's also finding a way to work together," Jean-Pierre told reporters traveling with President Joe Biden to California Monday afternoon. The Biden administration has spent recent months courting allies in the region as Beijing seeks to expand its sphere of influence and takes an increasingly militant line on Taiwan.
