Award-winning gospel singer Fred Hammond will perform at the Juneteenth Family Festival at Real Life Amphitheater.Juneteenth became a federal holiday last year, but it’s been a day of rejoicing and remembrance in Texas since the first anniversary of June 19, 1965, the day enslaved people in Galveston learned that they were free, two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
This all-day celebration will open with a 5K run followed by a carnival and a concert featuring Grammy and Dove award-winning gospel singer Fred Hammond; Erica Campbell, a former member of the duo Mary Mary; Grammy winner Mali Music; and jazz guitarist Tim Bowman.
