Ohio State football's offense executed two plays to perfection against Rutgers that continued to show what might be possible.
The offense keeps flashing premium upside — both in high-level execution and making the most of more conventional opportunities.
“We worked it all week, so I went out there with utter confidence,” Scott said of his second career touchdown. “That’s kind of the way we’re called to play the game. I saw the ball in the air amd I was thinking to go and make a play.” Early in the fourth quarter, Marvin Harrison Jr. had been targeted a mere four times, with only two receptions. McCord attempted to target him on second-and-9, and the pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage.
Henderson has nine receptions for 125 yards in two weeks since missing a month with an upper-body injury. He totaled 73 yards on seven receptions in the previous 12 games. McCord won the quarterback job in part because he showed he could manage the finer points of the offense. Maximizing Henderson as a check-down weapon has to qualify.
“It was not a fake punt, and there was some miscommunication on that, and that can’t happen,” Day said. Asked later to extrapolate, Day said, “I’m not going to get into it right now. Maybe we can talk about it Tuesday once I regroup with everybody.”
