Two stadiums tie for Alabama high school coaches' pick for best atmosphere for Friday night football games.
Josh Niblett brings new team back to Hoover“It’s a special place and that is one of the things I will always miss,” he said. “When you say ‘The Met’ in Alabama, everybody knows what you’re talking about. I’m going to always miss it. I have a mural of it that I keep and framed. I will miss it for sure.”’s summer survey of high school head coaches in Alabama, The Met and Andalusia High’s Municipal Stadium were tied at the top as the venues with the Best Friday Night Atmospheres in the state.
The Stadium underwent a $6 million renovation prior to the 2019 season. The renovation included removing the track around the field and moving the playing surface closer to the home stands. A three-story press box was added, along with a plaza and refurbished seats.“I’ve yet to have anyone visit – either high school or college coaches – who hasn’t said that what we have is unbelievable,” said Andalusia coach Trent Taylor, who graduated from the school in 1978.
“We talk about it a lot with the kids,” Taylor said. “When you have facilities like we are blessed with, that bullseye is a little larger on our team. Our guys have to understand that people will elevate their game when they come in to play in a venue like that. “I think it’s all part of the experience,” he said. “The way the field is designed now with the fans on top of you is neat. All those things come into play. And, like most small towns, Andalusia closes down on a Friday night. Everybody is there at the game whether it is a big rivalry game or just another region opponent.”
“It’s a beautiful setup for any level, but especially for high school. The quality of the team and the fact that we have close to 1,000 Hoover students involved on Friday night is big as well.”
