A Met Office yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of the region
Parts of the UK are set to face some wet weather this week as Storm Babet approaches. While Greater Manchester is not covered by the red weather warning in place for parts of the east of Scotland, Storm Babet will still affect the region.
The Met Office warns of the possibility of deep floodwater, causing a danger to life, as well as the flooding of homes and businesses. Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads and power cuts are a possibility. The heavy rain will be accompanied by 'strong easterly winds', which may worsen its impact.
The warning covers Manchester and Greater Manchester areas broadly to the east and south of the city. The warning area narrowly misses areas to the north and west such as Bury, Bolton and Leigh. These three areas can stil expect some rain however, with wet weather forecast for Thursday evening. Wigan, which is further from the covered area, could see some light showers.
The red warning states there is “danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater” in Aberdeenshire and Angus, with extensive flooding and road closures also expected. It is the first red warning for rain issued in the UK since Storm Dennis in February 2020.
