Lauren Cohan reveals when Maggie and Negan's upcoming TheWalkingDead spinoff, DeadCity, will take place in relation to the series finale: 'When we pick up in New York, it's a few years later.'

The Walking Dead premiered in 2010 and ran for 11 seasons before ultimately coming to a conclusion on November 20. The long-running horror series spawned a very dedicated and invested fanbase, which caused the show to grow into a franchise of its own.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cohan gives audiences a clue as to when Dead City takes place in the Walking Dead universe. Cohan says that Dead City begins years after the conclusion of The Walking Dead, though it's unclear just how many have passed. Read Cohan's full comment below:
When we pick up in New York, it's a few years later. So in my mind, there is sort this hopeful renewal at the end of the season of going out and exploring in the ways that we've seen her go do before. But I think this time with her family it's about staying in communication about their joint plan to do this and forge new roads. And family means Daryl and Carol and everybody else. And so that is what that means to me.
One of the earliest The Walking Dead cast members, Cohan first appeared on the series in season 2, and Maggie was a main character on the show until Cohan's departure in season 9. Cohan originally left the series in season 9 due to pay disputes and scheduling conflicts, but rather than killing Maggie off, The Walking Dead wrote her character out by having Maggie travel the country alongside Georgie in an attempt to spread knowledge among other communities of survivors.
With The Walking Dead franchise expanding to so many different spinoff series, it can be hard to keep the timeline straight. While it's still unknown when Daryl Dixon and Rick and Michonne will take place in relation to the Walking Dead series finale, Dead City picks up years later, and a lot can happen in that time.
