FCS opponent or not, Penn State fans still showed up for Saturday’s noon kick against the Delaware Blue Hens at Beaver Stadium.
Penn State announced a crowd of 108,575 to watch the Lions operate with efficiency and organization to roll up a 63-7 win and improve to 2-0 with a key contest coming against Illinois in the team’s Big Ten season opener.
Against Delaware, Allar didn’t have the same number of big shots down the field as he did against an aggressive West Virginia defense. But as the Blue Hens flooded the field with defensive backs, Allar picked and chose his spots wisely and let his playmakers go to work. He completed 22 of his 26 pass attempts for 204 yards with one touchdown throwing and another one on the ground.
Few meaningful conclusions might come from this one because of the immense discrepancy in talent level of both rosters, but crisp execution is certainly one of them. Outside of a 66-yard touchdown run by Delaware’s Marcus Yarns in the second quarter, the Blue Hens were squashed by Penn State’s starters, reserves and third-stringers on both sides of the ball.
