Cara Wall’s debut novel is in fact a sneakily addictive read, something like what you might get if you moved a book liketo the West Village. It’s a strange, compelling setting, exposing a different side of New York than what we’ve seen in recent works commemorating the era, and looking at the way that the Village was in fact a community that supported and sustained its inhabitants.
