“It moves really nicely. It’s comfortable to walk in…and dance in!”
“I saw the show, and I loved the tulle dresses at the end. There were two that we sort of mashed together,” Brooke said. “I also wanted a woman designer. I feel like it’s just good vibes on your wedding day.”
“We took the last two dresses and combined the knotted neckline and pleated sunburst sleeve from one with the skirt of another,” Cate explained. “We customized the white-color tulle with the white-velvet dot too. For the Rainbow Room, and what it is for New York, I actually thought about the dot tulle as the sparkling stars over the city, which I thought was really, really pretty. It’s like snowfall. The snowfall over the cityscape—that made a lot of sense to me.
The dress material was sourced from the most prestigious tulle house in Paris—according to Cate, Chanel sources from the same place. “We’re becoming kind of known for our tulle,” she adds. “People are coming to us for tulle-specific pieces, so it’s something we’re becoming more and more familiar with.”
For Brooke, the dress was a departure from the look she initially imagined. “When I first started out, I thought I was just going to do a slip dress à la Carolyn Bessette,” she admitted. “I told Sally [Singer,’s former creative director], and she looked at me in a very Sally way and was like, ‘Why?’ She said [that] this is a time when you can really have fun with a dress and [to] go a little more dramatic.
