Tropical Depression 9 is expected to intensify into a hurricane by Monday and potentially threaten Florida by Wednesday.
Hurricane season is picking up. September, traditionally the busiest month of the season, has seen four hurricanes this year after little to no activity in previous months.
Meteorologists have their eye on a fledgling system stirring in the abnormally warm waters of the Caribbean, currently known as Tropical Depression 9. The depression formed early Friday, and forecasters project that it will intensify into a tropical storm Saturday, earning the name Ian. It is predicted to become a hurricane by Monday and threaten Florida by Wednesday.
