Almost a month's worth of rain is expected to fall in Nottingham in just one day
People in Nottinghamshire have been warned flooding could pose a 'danger to life' as almost a month's worth of rain is due to fall in just a day. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning, which is valid from 12noon on Friday, October 20 until Saturday, October 21.
As of 4.30pm on Thursday, October 19, a flood warning, meaning flooding is 'expected' and five flood alerts are in place in the county, meaning flooding is possible - though these are expected to change and be added to. The warning is for the River Maun at Haughton, Milton and West Drayton and people living there have been advised to 'take action to protect yourself and your property'.
What to do in a flood The Gov.uk website has a range of advice for what to prepare for and in the event of flooding.A flood warning means you need to act: flooding is expected. You should do all the actions for a flood alert, but also:All floods are different and you should take advice from the emergency services and your local authority if you’re in a flood," the Gov.uk website states.
It adds: "If the road is flooded, turn around and find another route. The number one cause of death during flooding is driving through flood water, so the safest advice is turn around, don't drown.
