Congress is beginning to discuss their next legislative steps, including an interim bill and a second CARES Act to follow the historic $2T aid package passed last month.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said that he hoped to approve the additional funding by unanimous consent or voice vote during the next scheduled Senate session on Thursday, meaning that any lawmaker could hold up the process and there will need to be a consensus going into Thursday for it to pass.Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
It is unclear if Republicans will agree to those demands. Some called it an attempt to block the funds. Schumer and Pelosi said in a statement that after the interim legislation, they would press for passage of another major stimulus and relief package"that will extend and expand the bipartisan CARES Act to meet the needs of the American people. CARES 2 must provide transformational relief as the American people weather this assault on their lives and livelihoods."
