What is the future of the data center? paid Cisco
There are five key trends impacting the data center today.vastly different and more demanding set of user expectations
Moreover, applications are rapidly dissolving into interconnected webs of functions and data, distributed across on-premises and public cloud landscapes. With the rise of IoT, new devices and connections are growing exponentially at the network edge. Data gravity makes transporting the data less efficient than processing it at the edge. At the same time, latency and data reduction needs suggest an increasing demand for analytic horsepower and capacity at the edge.
And then, of course, there is security. A breach can be the death of an IT professional’s career and can, of course, have enormous consequences for the attacked enterprise and its customers. As attacks get more sophisticated, security cannot be bolt-on or on the periphery. It needs to be instilled into the product at every level—hardware, software, management, and even supply chain.Different players in the industry are executing to different strategies.
Net net, the good intentions of these technologies can be overshadowed by the additional complexity they create.Cisco recognizes that while technologies and options are evolving fast, customers are and will be at different stages in the adoption cycle. They also are starting from different places, with different operational and business realities governing their data center decisions.
The next guiding principle of our approach is the recognition that our customers’ environments are going to be multicloud–and one or more of those clouds will be an on-premises data center that is highly automated and dynamically provisioned. IT will need the ability to connect to multiple clouds, split applications across clouds, and allow for development in one cloud and deployment in another, all while ensuring commonality of networking, security, and operating environments across clouds.
First, IT leaders need to consider what attributes of their architecture they want to control versus which ones they want to let go of for a price.
