"What happened, and how it happened" CPD and OSHA working to figure out how an officer was hit by excavatorA Columbus police officer was rushed into surgery after being hit by a massive piece of construction equipment Wednesday morning. The officer was hit near the intersection of Trabue Road and Quarry Trails Drive.

"They're taking measurements talking to people on scene to see if there is any video from the area they're doing what they can to figure out what happened and how it happened," Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said.At this point, investigators are still trying to sort out exactly what led to the accident.

"We're figuring out whether our accident team will have a bigger hand in it or OSHA will take the lead in the investigation," Albert said."This is traumatizing to everyone involved," Albert said, "from the construction workers who witnessed it and the driver of the equipment to the officers on scene who responded to see one of their own severely injured."
